The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Mr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, who participated in the 46th session of the United Nations Fund for Agricultural Development IFAD, thanked them for forgiving their debts to Somalia totaling 30 million dollars.
The president praised the countries of Sweden, Belgium, Italy and Germany for the role they played in this debt forgiveness, while today’s meeting discussed the efforts of the Somali government to complete the debt forgiveness process.
President Hassan Sheikh presented Somalia’s opportunities for agricultural development and the surrounding challenges, pointing out that it is unfortunate that Somalia is a rich country and its people need emergency aid and food every year, and he said that the challenges placed agricultural production in the country where Al-Shabaab terrorists had a large area of land suitable for agriculture.
“The Somali people have responded to the government’s call to stand up for the eradication of terrorism, as the Somali Armed Forces, with the support of the local people, have succeeded in liberating many areas. The freed land includes a lot of agricultural land that is suitable for investment and farming, and we are hopeful that this will happen,” said President Hassan Sheikh.
Finally, the President of Somalia presented the debts owed to our country, climate change and the lack of experience of farming techniques that are obstacles to the development of agriculture in the country, and he assured that the government is making efforts to develop the understanding and profitability of agriculture.
