A total of 30 journalists were trained on the safety of journalists and avoiding fake news in Mogadishu between 26-28 November, 2023.
This training was conducted by the Banadir regional administration and ATMIS, and the journalists were taught during the three days how to check fake news and how the journalist should think about his safety.
The BRA Media director, Mr. Abdinasir Hersi Idle, who spoke at the end of the training, urged journalists to stay away from unverified and false news, so as not to mislead the community.
“The first thing that is required of a journalist is to have ethics and maintain the ethics of the media,” said director Idle, who added that fake news is causing problems for the Somali people, especially the leaders, and called for journalists should avoid news that is not based on the truth, and check the news they receive several times.
The Deputy Commissioner of Security and Political Affairs of Banadir Region, Mr. Mohamed Ahmed Diriye (Yabooh) who closed the training said that he was happy that journalists were trained for three days and the journalists expected to apply what they have learned.
“The journalist is required to be a moral, truthful person who does not lie about his work for the community. It is also required for the journalist to be reliable in his news and not be disturbed,” said Governor Yabooh.
On the other hand, some of the journalists who benefited from the training said that they benefited a lot from the training and will apply the knowledge taught, and noted that they learned knowledge they did not know before from the training teachers during the three days. .
This training was given by three teachers with experience in journalism, namely: Yusuf Hassan, Mohamed Mohamud Adde and Guled, who have all worked in different international media.
Lastly, the trained journalists were awarded certificates.
